STARSurg UK Committee

We have exciting plans to scale-up STARSurg's educational and research activities over the next 12 months. To help us achieve our goals, we are looking for proactive, organised students who are in constant contact with their regional peers, to act as local leads at each medical schools for STARSurg-II.

All medical students are encouraged to apply. You do not require previous experience, but good communication and project management skills are vital.

This year local leads will play an enhanced, central role in STARSurg. We have set the following targets for local leads:

1.     To deliver two mini-teams for every hospital placement site that your medical school visits.

2.     To act as buddy scheme link to regional collaboratives.

3.     To chair regional meetings, promoting STARSurg within own medical school over a period of 12 months.

4.     To attend and encourage your peers to attend STARSurg's bi-annual meetings, which will include a built-in local lead training session this year.

As a steering committee, we are committed to actively supporting local leads. You will have access to our database of interested students at your medical school; most universities were over-subscribed last year, so our targets are realistic.

Your contribution will be acknowledged, with STARSurg-II publications specifically citing your name as a lead for your medical school. In addition, you will be issued with a certificate to acknowledge your role and we hope to offer relevant training tailored specifically for local leads. This will be an impressive addition to your CV, as you will be one of the few students who have been involved in co-ordinating a multi-centre, national study. Finally, local leads will be well placed to apply to join the national steering committee for the following year.

To apply, simply fill out the attached application and return it to us by noon Monday 12th May.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
