Recognising and Managing the Acutely Unwell Surgical patient

An exciting and fun packed day that enables students to take on the role of doctors, making diagnoses, ordering investigations and initiating the management of surgical patients. All the scenarios are taught by core surgical trainees and registrars
 
Date: Saturday 20th September 2013
Time: 8.30am to 18.30pm
Venue: RKCSB, Leicester Royal Infirmary
 
The day will include:
Lectures covering key themes
·         Assessing the acutely surgical patient
·         Common surgical emergencies
·         Post op complications, shock and sepsis
Workshops include:
·        Blood transfusion, Anti coagulation therapy and surgery
.        Fluid Management

 
Simulations will covers lots of skills including:
·         Managing the Diabetic patient
·         The Trauma patient
·         The patient on anticoagulants
·         Filling out drug charts
·         Prescribing fluids
 
Excellent for clinical exams, working on the ward and on-call as an foundation doctor.
 
There will be a small fee to cover costs for the day:
£15 for members
£20 for non members
refreshments and lunch included
 
Note this event is directed for medical students in their clinical years only.
