Surgery & Beyond - Cutting Edge Conference
After the massive success of our student led conference – "AN INSIGHT INTO SURGERY" – last year, we have decided to bring another NATIONAL CONFERENCE to Leeds.
“SURGERY & BEYOND”
# Have you ever wondered how Surgery will be in the near future
# Not sure what life as a surgeon is like and would like to know more about it?
# Would you like the chance to participate in groundbreaking research and speak to the experts who are developing this technology
# Would you like the opportunity to have a go on MILLION DOLLAR machines, which are used in only the TOP RESEACRH CENTRES.
# Are you already involved in fantastic research and looking for an opportunity to do a poster presentation to boost your future career?
Surgery and Beyond is a fantastic opportunity for anyone interested in surgery to be amazed by the advances occurring in this field. Cutting Edge would like to extend an invitation to all of you to attend our surgical fair.
The main purpose of the fair is to expose students to a unique opportunity to explore how surgery is changing, what is being done in each field to make huge advances in patient care as well as incorporate massive developments in technology into surgery.
There will be a numerous different stalls; generally the conference will be split into 4 parts:
1) Specialties stalls – A whole host of specialties including: plastics, orthopedics, neurosurgery, pediatrics, and urology – to name a few. The aim is to allow students to gain some perspective into how each specialty is changing, and who better to hear it from than the experts.
2) Research Stalls – With Leeds being one of the biggest institution for research this is a perfect opportunity to showcase what we have been doing, and why we have some of the best research fellows. Work into nanotechnology, biomarkers and robotics are some of the stalls which will be exhibited.
3) Practical Skills Stalls - Have the opportunity to try your hand at basic surgical skills hosted by the Clinical Skills department at St James’s. Also, have a go on Laparoscopic machines, as well as others.
4) Talks – Our Keynote speaker this year is Professor Jayne, who is a Pioneer in Laparoscopic & Robotic Surgery, his talk “The Changing Landscapes of Laparoscopic Surgery”. We will also have two other talks including one about “Applying for the Future” which will detail how things will be changing for future applicants
There is also an opportunity for 5 students to present their research in the form of poster presentations at the conference! The deadline for poster presentations is on the 26thFeb Midday, please email your abstracts to cuttingedgeleeds@hotmail.com, it must be related to surgery.
This conference is extremely unique, so DON’T MISS THE CHANCE TO GET INVOLOVED.
