The second session is evening course running on May 31 24May2011Mock Spotter for 1st Year Undergraduates.An opportunity to experience an anatomy spotter before the exam itself. Due to time constraints and wanting to enable as many people as possible to take part, the mock will be slightly different from the actual spotter. It will however be carried out under exam conditions, with a minute at each station - just like the real thing but will have 20 stations instead of the 16 that you have in the actual spotter. Groups of 4 people will rotate around the stations and then the supplementary questions will be answered at the end of all 20 stations instead of between each station. The talk will use examples from GI surgery, such as gall stone disease and diverticular disease! Come along in the first of a three week series of events aimed at getting you through CP1 exams, presented by Dr Nabeela Malik currently an F1 at Queens (Notts MedSchool Graduate) 9May2011Escape to Africa! - How to spend a year training in Madagascar!Ever wanted to spend a year abroad or organise an elective to somewhere exotic, somewhere like, MADAGASCAR but just didn't know where to begin?! If so, then come along to this talk by Mr Watts, a Notts Grad who actually spent a year in Madagascar and who currently works as a General Surgery Registrar at Queens. All years welcome! You never know, "a year in the developing world might be more useful both for you and the people you treat"! There will be free pizza before the talk at 1800! 5May2011Paediatric Surgery Revision with Mr SinghWith exams only a few weeks away, Mr Singh (infamous paediatric surgeon at the QMC) has agreed to hold a one night revision in paediatric surgery!
He hopes to cover all the essentials needed for the exam in an hour, followed by a half hour to address any worries or specific questions. Free pizza from 5.45pm!! All years welcome but particularly relevant for 4th years. Look forward to seeing you there! 24March2011Annual Surgical Careers Fayre 2011Whether you are interested in a career in surgery or you have not yet decided, come and hear lectures from three inspirational surgeons:
1800 - 1815 - Mr I McVicar: "A day in the life of a MaxFax Surgeon"
1820 - 1835 - Prof A Wallace: "Training in Surgery"
1840 - 1900 - Messrs Conal Quah / Darryl Ramoutar: "Anecdotes: Progressing through the surgical pathway"
1900 - 2000 - Surgeons on stalls in MedSchool Foyer.
These speakers will give you good honest invaluable advice on what a career in surgery realistically entails. 23February2011Finals Mock OSCE Series Please note: In order to ensure as many students as possible get to participate we will only be accepting registration from students who did not attend our OSCE sessions earlier in January or on Feb 16th.
Scrubs is running one final OSCE practice sessions for final year medical students which will each consist of a 6 station mock OSCE. They will be assessed by current F1 and F2 doctors.
All sessions will start at 6pm prompt. Running for approx 1.5-2 hours in Med school QMC. Bring your stethescope, tendon hammer & pen torch.

Current roles: Nuffield Professor of Surgery Emeritus, Honorary Consultant Oxford Radcliffe Hospital Trust, Honorary Professor London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, Honorary Professor University of Warwick, Director of Centre for Evidence in Transplantation. Professor Sir Peter Morris was former Chairman of the Department of Surgery, University of Oxford, President of the Royal College of Surgeons of England from 2001 to 2004, and also former Chairman of the British 12February2011Trauma DayTWO PLACES LEFT ON TRAUMA DAY! Booking for these will reopen on Tuesday 25th January at 7pm and close on Thursday 27th January at 7pm. Trauma Day is one of the most popular events that we run throughout the year. It is a full day event, held at the QMC. The format of the day will consist of small groups of 5 students rotating around 5 different scenarios. A massive amount of effort is put into the day - each of the scenarios has actors, props and plenty of blood! Mr Hope returned to cover more clinically relevant neuroanatomy.
Mr Hope is a semi-retired neurosurgeon and a favourite among the students he has taught.
Each lecture covered relevant anatomy which was then placed in a clinical context.
This 5 week lecture series covered:
1. The Motor System
2. The Cerebrovascular System
3. Cerebellum and Extra-pyramidal System
4. The Sensory System
5. Cranial Nerves

The College had set up a stall for the Biannual Medlink conference, where thousands of hopeful medics descend upon Nottingham to get a taster of life as a medical student. 20September2010Freshers Fayre 2010
As is tradition, SCRUBS, Nottingham Universities Student Surgical Society, will be represented at this years Medical Student's Freshers' Fayre.
Whether you're a fresher or a final year medic you are very welcome to come and check out what were are all about and join one of the largest and most successful student surgical societies in the country!You can find our stand in the Medical School Foyer between 9am and 5pm on both Monday the 20th and Tuesday the 21st of September.

Mr Williams (Consultant Colorectal Surgeon) as well as Mr Alistair Simpson and Mr Matt Reeds are leading a session focused on surgically relevant anatomy (with the use of cadavers!) next Wednesday in the Dissection Room (DR) at the QMC. The session will focus on Upper GI, Lower GI and vascular anatomy and give you the opportunity to ask those awkward questions and better understand your anatomy and surgical techniques. Youll also get a certificate for attending the event!

SCRUBS offers an amazing opportunity for 1st and 2nd years to participate in one of our Basic Suturing Sessions. There are 15 places available for this event and sign up is available through our website. 21October2009Basic Laparoscopic Skills Session - QMC CampusFancy a go a key hole surgery? Want to know a little more about laparoscopic techniques?
Mr Chris Morris (Laparoscopic teaching fellow), Mr Nick Baylem (Surgical teaching fellow) and Miss Innamaa (SpR O&G Surgeon) are leading a basic laparoscopic skills session next Wednesday at the QMC campus! The session will consist of an intro to surgical laparoscopic skills and give you the opportunity to simulate basic skills with the laparoscopic simulators! Youll also get a certificate for attending the event.
There are 20 places available for this session. This is a members only 28April2009Advance Suturing - DerbyThis session offers the unique opportunity to practice suturing on pig skin, to excise cysts and moles and learn about closing different types of wounds. It is reserved for clinical students who have already confident with basic suturing. Cost will be 10 each to cover materials and equipment use. 27April2009Basic Suturing - QMCSuturing teaching specifically for 1st and 2nd years. It will involve learning basic surgical knot-tying techniques as well practicing suturing on skin pads. There are 16 places for the session and as usual these will be on a first come first served basis, for SCRUBS members. 23April2009Laparoscopy Practice Session - DerbyWhy not have a go at laparoscopy practice with real instruments and camera control? This much awaited and exciting event is returning to Derby with the opening of the brand new DCGH skills centre. There are 10 places per session and as usual these will be on a first come first served basis, reserved for SCRUBS members.
